Obenshain Files Candidacy Paperwork, Picks Up New Endorsements

01/08/2013 | News |

This morning, I officially filed the necessary papers to seek the Republican nomination for Attorney General.

It was a routine event rendered more meaningful by the location: the Richard D. Obenshain Center, the state party headquarters that bears my father's name.

You already knew, of course, that I was running for Attorney General, but today's filing serves as a reminder that we're coming up on a new phase in the campaign, one dominated by the March and April mass meetings at which each unit will elect delegates to the state convention on May 18th.

The 2013 session of the Virginia General Assembly begins tomorrow, and it is to his legislative duties that I will devote the greater portion of my time during the 45-day "short session." But the campaign goes forward – with your help.

The constraints imposed by session make it all the more important that you get involved, helping to spread the word about my campaign and encouraging your friends and neighbors to join my team.

You'll be in good company. Today, I'm pleased to announce an expanded list of endorsements from State Central Committee, where more than half of our party's state committee is already on Team Obenshain:

  • Steve Albertson
  • Diana Banister
  • Mark Berg

  • I had the honor of speaking at the Trooper Harry Lee Henderson Bridge Dedication ceremony earlier this week in Warren County.  I was proud to patron the legislation that names the bridge over Route 624 after Trooper Henderson.  Trooper Henderson was a dedicated public servant who paid the ultimate sacrifice while in the line of duty.  Thank you to all the men and women in law enforcement who work each day to keep us safe!

  • Few events are more rewarding or inspiring to attend than a naturalization ceremony. Today I proudly participated in a ceremony where a Federal Judge administered the oath and 46 new Americans stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance for the first time as citizens of this great nation. These new citizens, their family and friends packed the courtroom for this important milestone in their lives. If you doubt the excitement of these new citizens, take a look at the smiles on the faces of the Morales family - Americans from Bridgewater!
