Obenshain Files Candidacy Paperwork, Picks Up New Endorsements

01/08/2013 | News |

This morning, I officially filed the necessary papers to seek the Republican nomination for Attorney General.

It was a routine event rendered more meaningful by the location: the Richard D. Obenshain Center, the state party headquarters that bears my father's name.

You already knew, of course, that I was running for Attorney General, but today's filing serves as a reminder that we're coming up on a new phase in the campaign, one dominated by the March and April mass meetings at which each unit will elect delegates to the state convention on May 18th.

The 2013 session of the Virginia General Assembly begins tomorrow, and it is to his legislative duties that I will devote the greater portion of my time during the 45-day "short session." But the campaign goes forward – with your help.

The constraints imposed by session make it all the more important that you get involved, helping to spread the word about my campaign and encouraging your friends and neighbors to join my team.

You'll be in good company. Today, I'm pleased to announce an expanded list of endorsements from State Central Committee, where more than half of our party's state committee is already on Team Obenshain:

  • Steve Albertson
  • Diana Banister
  • Mark Berg

  • As the Republican nominee for Attorney General four years ago, I know firsthand the grit and stamina it takes to fight the liberal establishment.  In 2017, it is imperative that Republicans nominate a candidate who is both qualified in his experience and prepared to run as our standard bearer for conservative principles in the race for Attorney General. As a former Supreme Court Clerk for Clarence Thomas, an attorney for President George W. Bush in the White House, and a former federal prosecutor, I am confident that John has the ability to step in on day one and be a successful and effective lawyer for the Commonwealth. That is why I am fully supporting John Adams for Attorney General.John’s unique background and incredible work ethic over the last 10 months of campaigning and gathering the support of grassroots activists across the Commonwealth have positioned him to not only run a competitive campaign but to defeat Mark Herring next year. As Attorney General, I am confident that John will protect our constitutional rights, defend the rule of law, and stay true to his conservative principles. John Adams has my full support in his bid to become the next Attorney General of Virginia.
